How and why did you start your own firm Mark?
While I was completing my B.A. at Carleton University in Ottawa, I was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. I was cycling to work one day, when all of a sudden a car hit me at an intersection, resulting in a knee fracture. After a lengthy hospital stay and years of recovery I realized how complicated the legal process was to navigate. I asked myself two serious questions: If I was a lawyer, how would I make people who have gone through similar situations feel better and more comfortable? How could I get them the compensation they deserve? Upon my return to university that semester, I made a conscious decision to study law.
Following my undergraduate degree in law at Carlton University, I moved on to completing a three year law degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. In 2000, I obtained an articling position as a student at Oatley, Purser.
At Oatley, Purser I was engaged in all forms of practice, as it was then a full-service firm. Eventually, the firm split and I joined Oatley, Vigmond where I was an associate for a number of years, practicing exclusively in personal injury litigation.
With the confidence, experience and drive that I learned at my old firm, I decided to take the next step and start my own firm in 2005, returning to my roots in the GTA- Mississauga area. As a result of my ability to speak Polish, I managed to attract a vast amount of clients within the Polish community seeking legal help. As time passed, I broadened my practice to include different multicultural communities.
I practiced in a variety of areas of law however personal injury and family law have been the bulk of my practice. I have drafted wills and done some estate planning for our regular clients as well.
We have grown from a one person affair to a firm with over six amazing staff and a number of others who assist us.
I thoroughly enjoy personal injury law, assisting those who have found themselves injured, like I once was. I help them navigate the system providing them with sound legal advice. I also counsel them and provide them with direction. Most importantly I make sure that my clients and staff feel safe, comfortable and secure in our friendly office. My mission is to simplify complicated processes, and make everyone feel at ease in what is otherwise a very overwhelming, complex and frightening legal world. My clients can rest assured knowing that they have an assiduous advocate leading them and fighting for their rights.
